Chapeltown
and District Probus Club

Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Founded in December 1985 to provide facilities
for retired and semi-retired professional and business men
to meet in fellowship and to maintain social contacts
Chapeltown and District Probus Club meet at 10am on the second Wednesday
of each month in an informal and cordial atmosphere at the Grenoside
Community Centre. After a short Club business meeting, a high standard
of guest speakers provide talks on a wide variety of subjects
Between fifty and sixty members attend the monthly meetings and a majority
then go for a full three course, but modestly priced, lunch at nearby
Whitley Hall Hotel in Ecclesfield. This is optional, but many members
find it an excellent opportunity to get to know others better
and together attempt to set the world to rights!
Our seventy plus members range in age from late fifties to late
eighties, maybe it is this that helps to keep the Club alive and forward
thinking - who would have even considered a Club website a few years back?
Our five Honorary Associate Members, who for personal reasons cannot now
join us very often, are kept in touch and know they are welcome at any time
The special Spring, Summer and Winter Lunches and the Annual Dinner are the main
social highlights of the year when wives, partners, widows of former
members and friends are all invited. Last year’s Annual Dinner marked
the first twenty five years of the club and we have three active
founder members regularly attending meetings and events
Additional local outside visits to places of special interest are arranged
and when possible these are opened to family, non members and friends
At the Annual General Meeting, in March, the officials are elected,
the annual membership subscription (presently £19) is set
and all aspects of the orga
nisation of the Club are discussed
The Committee, comprising all the officials, holds regular management
meetings to ensure the smooth running of the Club
